WTF? Why would somebody join a Forum and make their profile Private?

This member limits who may view their full profile.
Why is this even an option? Is it to protect spammers? Though the person who wanted to keep his profile secret did not seem to be a spammer. Maybe I have found the first person to add to an ignore list for the first time in my many years of using forums. Does this board support ignore lists?
It took me three weeks to figure out that I had to start a conversation to send a PM. The board looks OK and it works but why the hell couldn't they call a Personal Message a PM?
