So the poor stressed out guy who went from house to house killing kids and burning their little bodies is still unnamed and with US forces- where they try to help the poor guy deal with what must be a horrible thing for him to have gone through. Do you think he gets handed over to the Taliban?

The media coverage is amusing in that the only story they see is how this may be bad for US public relations. Obama used the "M" word to describe what this guy did and that's a funny first! And coming from him, he should have laid out clear rules for how to kill women and children. He also wants everyone to know that he has confidence in Americans in Afghanistan who have sacrificed so much.

    discuss!

His command knew the guy was having problems before they sent him back for either his third or fourth tour. I'm not excusing what he did, but when your ops tempo is this high and guys are doing multiple tours, the outcome isn't surprising. They better not turn him over to the Afghani's. Let the military justice system deal with him and tell Karzi to go pound sand.

Sorry. No justification for this one. This guy deserves to burn. End of story.

so allowing the surviving family members to hurl stones at him til he's a bag of bones in a puddle of goo is out of the question then? Maybe Obama can tell the guys "piloting" drones from New Mexico to take him out! This has been determined to be a legal way to kill without trial, US citizens (and anyone else) on foreign soil. Problem solved!

Either of those options is fine with me, but we will never know what happens. He will probably get a commendation medal.

No reason to be over there with a hearts and minds mission. It's impossible.

    Chilli,

Ever been in a combat situation where you don't know who the good guys are? Ever been in a situation(s) where you don't know from one minute to the next what you'll run into? Where simply walking down a street can can be dangerous? Ever watched your friends get maimed or killed? Ever helped put them into a plastic bag? If you haven't, I don't think you can begin to understand what happens to a person when they've been exposed to this for prolonged periods of time, or multiple times for that matter.

You're right that we may never know what happened. Of this we can be certain. Something in this guy snapped. Not everyone who goes to war can deal with the shock effectively. Some are better at it than others and some just flat lose it.
