People have a moral obligation not to assault innocent bystanders. Example, I'm not sure what the people were trying to accomplish by pulling Reginald Denny out of his truck and almost killing him. He could have been a racist bastard that deserved it, but nobody knew who he was. The whole two wrongs don't make a right thing I guess is what I'm saying.
Why are you saying it though? Only 1 wrong has been done so far....who is this "moral obligation" admonishing for?
Jeeeeez.....all I'm saying is if Zim gets off for some reason, it doesn't mean I should have a bullseye on my back because I'm white, or your back because you're black. I acknowledged the 1st wrong, the 2nd wrong would be grabbing someone and hurting them because you're (not you personally) upset Zim got off.
"....if Zim gets off for some reason....." But it hasn't happened....and that's a classic tactic of those that don't want to really discuss the actual issue. "Yeah...yeah.....that first thing was wrong, but let's not make it worse by....." Worse for whom? The Martin's lost their son.....can't get much worse for them and Trayvon unless some odd law makes what happened ok. We haven't really talked about that yet. We spent time on looking suspicious and black leaders, but haven't really talked about the actual case. There's really nothing else to talk about until justice prevails....unless the other thing that has actually happened in this case (took forever just to get an arrest) is discussion worthy. Other than that the only thing worth talking about is the history of blacks and the US justice system which makes these types of things possible to begin with....and I know nobody wants to actually discuss that. Everything else is just assumption, speculation, or racist BS disguised as reasonable and rational thought....when it's really just plain racism, cognitive dissonance, or institutionalized racism and crappy ideologies manifesting themselves in bad ways coming from otherwise decent folks....who don't mean to be saying stupid stuff.
Well, I'm willing to talk openly about anything. I was just mentioning what I hope doesn't happen and what we might be able to do to prevent it. Personally I think Trayvon's parents have handled everything with grace considering what they must be going through.
Imagine if they didn't? Some aren't allowed to show that they are outrgaged. Will you concede that justice may not have reached first base (an arrest) without the attention drawn to the case by people like Sharpton?
Yep, and I'd have no issue if the parents were more outspoken. I'll concede that Sharpton has impact on getting justice in general. I think this case was so rediculous that there was a good chance the same outcome was likely without him. One of the things he did by being there was to draw attention to what looks like a bad idea for a law in stand your ground.
I'm not ready for the convo Santo. I don't want to tell you how what you're writing is coming off. The last handful of responses I made to you were all third or fourth drafts, after deleting or censoring what I originally wrote. I just deleted a paragraph from this post, because I thought it would hurt your feelings. I don't know any other nice ways to tell you that you're missing the point when you keep going beyond the actual tragedy to worrying about how black folks might react. If you would focus on the actual act of ignoring police instructions and confronting a kid (with a loaded gun mind you) over what has been deemed "suspicious clothes" and deciding he "didn't belong there" and he might "get away with it"and somehow all that leads to this kid getting killed...you might understand how nuts it is to be talking about how being denied justice in such a case shouldn't lead to anger. Yes it should.....just deleted another paragraph....LOL!
Without Sharpton and others....they might have told that family anything to protect a judge's son. As it is....it took a month and a half to arrest him and they already have stupid people believing it might have been "self defense".
Then I haven't done a good job speaking here. I take this as a place to debate a little and maybe discuss other things depending on the direction the thread takes. To be honest, the theme of the thread and the 10 minute snipit on the news I saw (I've seen less than probably 30 mnutes about this whole thing and read a couple articles), was that Zim was racist and a murderer. All I was trying to do was say hey, wait a minute, what do we actually know here? Let's look at this from every angle....as if I'm watching court TV....just analyzing. Part of the news I saw was black panthers and bounties...I see some disgusting things on post article message boards..and I'm like, wait a minute...this guy is hispanic? Why are we talking about a black/white race war?...so I mentioned that.I though it was a simple discussion about looking at this from every angle and somehow it turned into me defending this clown and being out of touch with reality. I know there is injustice. I understand things need to change. There are things about race that drive me nuts, profiling, baiting, double standards etc. Things we may not agree about maybe. But I love talking about it with people who can offer a different perspective as long as we're both willing to hear things that might make us uncomfortable or even angry and be willing to perhaps adjust perspective for the sake of better understanding. Because all I can speak on is how my personal life experience has shaped my views. I have no doubt if we ever met we'd get along fine. So I'm glad you did delete what ever it was, because you probably would have hurt my feelings!...lol
