I'll be honest. During the off-season I struggle to keep up with Baseball. Too many players, too many trades and no real view of the game over here. So I'm not sure how prepared the Padres are for the season. So I'm wondering how far they can go, and who are likely to be the powerhouses in MLB this season.
It will be a struggle to win the west against the dodgers and rockies, but it's so inconsistent, who knows. That division is good all of the sudden. It's going to be the usual contenders in the american: red soxs, yankees, angels, tigers or indians. In the nl, it's not as good, but I expect the mets, braves, brewers, phillies and maybe cardinals, cubs, dodgers, padres, rockies. There are usually teams that come out of nowhere. I have no idea who it's going to be. I think the brewers will win the central. That's my one pick
It doesn't get any closer to making the playoffs than it did last year for the Padres, that's for sure. If they make the playoffs, they could do it all. I'm a Red Sox fan, but it wouldn't break my heart to see the Padres win it all.
To be honest, I struggle with baseball as well being so far away from SD. Not that I don't like the Pads--I's just tough finding the time to catch up on it every day.
Its all about pitching to win the NL West...Peavy and Young are a nice one two punch....Still the Pads have NO big bat in the line up...Edmonds can be a good addition in CF that is if he stays healthy...B Giles is comming off of micro fracture surgery...Thay can win the NL West...I think its the Rockies title to lose
Thats what the internet is for g! j/k... That's the only way i get any Padres exposure out here away from SD. I dont think the rockies are going to be as good as they were last year, thats just my honest opinion. The team I am going to be worried about in the west this year is the dodgers, torre is trying to make them the yankees(booo) of the west coast...
I think it's gonna be between the Padres and snakes in the NL West. I like our pitching staff but I'm not sure we have enuff offense to get it done. Living in KC I do follow the Royals and well they're gonna be the Royals again. But on a good note, they'll be sporting the powder blue color they sported during the early 80's.
I don't know man... I disagree on a few points. Yes, it is all about pitching in the West, and everyone knows that the Padres are as good as you get when it comes to pitching. But you say we don't have a big bat? Look at what our 3 solid infielders all did last year. Who needs one guy who can hit 40 or 50 HR's a year, when you have 3 guys that you can count on for 25+? I can honestly see Kouz and Gonzo getting 30 a piece, and another 25 or so form Greene as long as he stays healthy like he did last year. The Rockies title to lose? They were the Wild Card. The DBacks won the West, and I still think they are the team to watch. The Rockies lost some good pitching, so I'm not too worried about them, but the DBacks and Dodgers will put up some trouble. I still say we can do it, but it'll definitely be a 3 team race all year long.
