i remember on the old site some of u talked about this before and said u had some luck with the players signing ur cards and sending em back to you.i have a list of addresses which i think might be pretty legit.some big name players on it also.no chargers though..heres a few on the list:aikman, bledsoe, marino, montana ronnie lott, merlin olsen, bradshaw, gastineau,bo jackson. also a lot of m.l.b. players too..so im gonna send some cards out and see what happens..get back to me if uve got any expertise in doing this kinda stuff or whatever..or if u might be interested in some of these addresses..lemme know!
Ive done this before...I used to send out 8x10's ...it's hit or miss...I used to get the address out of the Becketts magazine...It had or still has all the addresses to every sports franchise ...Like I said...it was hit or miss
I have a huge collection of signed chargers cards that I got this way. I am trying to collect one signed card for every charger that ever had a card made. It's been a long journey, but I'm enjoying the trip. I also collected lots of cards from a Topps All American set from '05 the same way. I got big names too. Montana and Olsen from your list were in the set and signed cards and sent them back. I got guys like Dan Fouts, Ozzie Newsome, Bubba Smith, Mike Singletary, Lawrence Taylor, Herschel Walker, Dick Butkus, Alan Page, Johnny Rodgers, Archie Griffin, and Bob Griese, all through-the-mail! (Wow...I hadn't looked at these in awhile...I got some kool autographs) A couple of the players actually write letters back while most simply sign and send back the card. In my experience the bigger names are actually a little easier to get, because they get many more requests and are used to it...and they stay put more. Some guys bounce around and finding an address that is correct on them can be tough. The really old guys are the best, cause they are just happy people remember them. I got a letter from an old Charger named Henry Schmidt where he said he hadn't looked at the card I sent him to sign in forty years. He signed the card and wrote all over the margins with info about being a marine and playing with the 49ers and told me to have a great life! It's fun and trips to the mailbox don't get any more exciting than waiting to see who sent something back. I got into it with the guy that actually put me onto this site years ago....Todd Tobias or AFL Chargers to veteran GTP folks. He is the author of two chargers history books...Charging Through The AFL about the early charger teams and another book called Bombs Away about the Air Coryell era. Both are must haves for real charger fans! Anyway....he was collecting only Topps autographs of Chargers players and we did the all american set together. He would send two cards to half the guys and I would send two to the other half then we sent them to each other as they came back. It was quite successful. You want to send a brief note explaining your request, a small but adequate self addressed stamped envelope for them to conveniently send your card back, and the card of course. I sent my cards in those little plastic card holders that collectors use. You can get them at any card or hobby shop. Then you just wait!
Here are a few from the collection that Lydell mentioned. All rookie cards, with the exception of Unitas. This collection is now complete from 1960-2009, all cards signed. I need one card from the 2010 team set (Jonathan Crompton) and one from the 2011 team set (Darren Sproles) to be totally complete.
What's up T-Money....I was just talking about you 2 days ago! You wouldn't believe what came to my old address a few days ago.....2 signed Brad Muster cards from the All American set!!! You told me my set was tougher....glad you got yours done!
Those are some sweet cards! I have 3 Upper Deck signed cards of JJ, Charlie Joiner and Kellen Winslow. That Alworth card with "HOF 78" on it takes the cake! That is BAAAAAAD! It's cool to hear some of you guys collect cards. I just started up again last summer and it is fun. I also have been finding 8x10 photos on ebay. That is where I have been getting my stuff. There are only 2 or 3 card shops left down here in SD.
Yes, I can't believe that this collection is nearly complete. I began it back in 1998, and have been workign on it diligently ever since. I also collect autographed AFL football card sets from the 1960s. I now have about 95% of the cards from the decade signed, including all of the Hall of Famers - Joe Namath, Bobby Bell, Len Dawson, etc. In my rdiculous manner of collecting, I wasn't content to have the cards from my Chargers collection also used for my AFL sets, so I doubled up and now have two autographed copies of each of the Chargers cards from the 1960s (minus a second 1960 Fleer Dick Chorovich and 1966 Topps Frank Buncom). But I enjoy them, and maybe one day my kids will also.
