By Gayle Fee and Laura Raposa Damon Lee Blusts streak as Lucky, the Boston Celtics [team stats] mascot, has come to an unfortunate end. For him. The Green Teams front office earlier this week slam-dunked their hyperkinetic mascot after five years of wowing fans with his catapults and acrobatics. The Blust-er on his departure? He was unreliable and missed many mandated charity appearances, team sources told the Track. Word is, Blust, 33, and the NBA world champs had agreed that the 2008-2009 season would be his last, but Damon was sent packing before Wednesday nights game against the Sacramento Kings - with two months left on the regular season. You have to know when to check your ego at the door, said Someone Who Knows, adding that Luckys alter ego was paid at least six figures for his Green team gig. Yesterday, the Celtics front office released a statement about the departure of their bow-tied, bowler-topped cheerleader: Damon Blust who played the role of Lucky, the Celtics mascot, is no longer employed by the team. We appreciate his many efforts in entertaining Celtics fans as well as his work in the community while a member of the Celtics organization. Blust, through his reps at 207 Entertainment, said last night that the team relieved him from his contract to allow him the time to invest in a new career - a health- and fitness-based program for school kids. At 33 Im not getting any younger, and like most professional athletes there comes a time to step out of the spotlight and focus on a career that can be sustained at an older age, he said in a statement that carried the headline: Celtics Loose (sic) Their Face. Sources told the Track that Damon told people at the Garden that he had resigned. Blusts dad, Gerry, who lives in Pennsylvania, said he was devastated by his sons fast break from the Celts. People were also so complimentary about Damons job as Lucky, the mascots pop told the Track. He was just on Conan (OBrien)s show a couple of weeks ago and theres been lots of stories about him. Hes a talented kid and his mother and I are very proud of him. Ive been a Boston Celtics fan since the Bob Cousy days, even though Im from Cincinnati, he said. Always loved that team . . . The Celtics, who are in a quest for Banner 18, dont have a plan in place to recruit another Leprechaun this season. But maybe that diminutive fellow who played Lucky, Rashida Jones nightmare blind date in the short-lived FOX series, Unhitched, is available! Link
“At 33 I’m not getting any younger, and like most professional athletes there comes a time to step out of the spotlight and focus on a career that can be sustained at an older age,” .... :laugh3:.......:Thud:
I don't know what is worse calling himself a professional athlete or getting fired from a mascot gig that pays $100K...idiot
Damon Lee Blust is to "professional athlete" As Barney Rubble is to "professional actor"..........:megaroftl:
I will admit, good entertainers, but pro athletes.........about as pro as a pool player, or Dart player.........
Wow....100K+ to do some cartweels and giggle with toddlers? Does this mean my elementary gym teacher was a pro athlete? I would have asked for his autograph...... Lucky is a tool. End of story. And I bet he got a ring too....rediculous.
