It has been about fifty seasons since the Chargers one and only championship:

This team and its' fans are due.

    Fully Charged Spanos=Commited to Championship

    Agreed.

As the Giants proved (correction-proved again), anything can happen when you get in to the playoffs.

Most teams have sufficient talent, but you need a fair amount of luck too. If you get hot at the right time, are not decimated with injuries for the final push, remain within reach of the division lead, correct the things that have been problematic from earlier in the season, and play well in your division, great things CAN happen.

The one thing I really hope is different this year is that the coaching staff are able to deal quickly with whatever issue raises it's ugly head to derail the season, before it becomes a trend. Things like the specialty teams of two years ago, the pass protection which lead to excessive INT's last year, losing streaks that last more than 2 games, ball security, etc. Great teams deal quickly and decisively with issues, before they result in playoff elimination.

Each season is different, but the enemy should not come from within.

I remain hopeful, or cautiously optomistic, as they say.

30 years and counting (became a fan after watching the Epic in Miami)

All fanhood aside there is one team besides the Chargers I feel is more overdue than any other team.

But back to the OP, I wasn't even thought of when that AFL Championship was won. It's cool and all but I guess it just doesn't mean as much to me being born and raised in the Super Bowl era. No disrespect, it's just the true perspective and reality of the situation for me. I'd much rather see the team hold up a [IMG] than hold onto the memory of a ring that gets little to no recognition anymore.

    Which team?

I was two years old and totally unaware of football and the NFL. Actually the post is mostly a comment on the awkwardness of the site title. If not the 1963 season Championship of a new fledgeling league what do we glorify? Perhaps Chargers players who have been inducted into the NFL Hall Of Fame?

When I think of the Chargers I think of about 79' on. I glorify Fouts and those guys. I'm proud of what they did in the AFL, but it doesn't get me anywhere when it comes time to talking smack with my friends....lol
