Yeah, the Aborigines call it "Invasion Day" I always tell Aussies to read, "A People's history of the United States" to understand the US better than most USicans and I refer USicans to, "A Secret Country" to get the same about Australia
sometimes i buy a young peoples history of the US as a gift to young up and coming readers, since its in the childrens section of barnes & noble and all (i try not to get so fuggin cliche with my gift giving). But i usually just get looks of confusion and weird thank yous. haha a secret country ay. ill giver a look see.
I give em a sixer of my favorite brew. Then their parents shoot me a cold look and make em give it back to me. Win-win Don't you judge me...
There's all sorts of exciting stuff in there....he puts it together well like Zinn did CIA with the help of the Queen, financial outfits and asset, Rupert Murdoch overthrew the Prime Minister Pine Gap is the first place on the world map that may get nuked and of course "criminal" labor and the unspeakable treatment of the native population. Though it didn't seem Pilger set out to do an Aussie version of "People's", he did something pretty good...basically described the whole land/capital relationship of carving up feudal tracts for noble cunts. Washington and Jefferson and friends were all recipients or descended recipients of this privilege as well. That's what's so funny about founding father worship...they were complaining about the tyranny of still having to be knights loyal to a king who empowered them to grab the land to begin with! The idea that these guys are our buddies because of a constitution written for them is funny stuff!
