If the Texans let Mario walk, will AJ have the balls to sign him?

    jmoods55 double nickel

Four defensive ends or linebackers from teams' current practice squads being signed is FAR more likely. then throw in a couple "names we have heard" as FA splash signings.......................from 10 years ago (2012 versions of Sanders and Takeo) and we'll be set!!!

    Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!

I heard Colts are moving to a 3-4. That's gonna be nuts. They have no big bodies

SonofaBolt Go AJ! And take Norv with you.

    Maybe not, and here's why.

Franchise-tagged players are guaranteed the average of the top 5 salaries at their position. The average for the top 5 outside linebackers is several million $$$ more (per year) than the average for the top 5 defensive ends. The Texans created their own mess when they moved Mario Williams from DE to OLB. It's the reason why the Texans may have to let him walk in free agency.

If Mario were to go back to being a 4-3 end, he would likely lose guaranteed money if he were to be franchise-tagged in the future by his next team. And Mario is undersized as a 3-4 DE and would probably lose his effectiveness in 3-4 front because he would encounter constant double teaming.

Of course, Mario was also a Pro Bowl DE. He's still learning the ropes at OLB so it is possible he could target a team that still uses the 4-3.
