If the Texans let Mario walk, will AJ have the balls to sign him?

SonofaBolt Go AJ! And take Norv with you.

The franchise tag is not believed to be an option for the Texans in retaining free agent Mario Williams.

Williams earned $18 million in 2011. The mandatory franchise-tag raise would push his 2012 salary to a prohibitive $22.9 million, leaving Williams with quite a bit of leverage in contract talks. Williams' preference is to stay in Houston, but his agent surely realizes there's a good chance the best pass rusher on the market will break the bank in free agency.

The Chargers and Raiders are two of the many teams sure to be interested if Williams hits the open market.

The Texans started him at OLB last season, so they really created their own crappy cap situation by designating him at a position that pays a lot more than DE.

Mario could be a monster OLB for the Chargers, coming off the right edge in a way we haven't seen since Merriman was still a football player. And if Pagano keeps to his promise to integrate more 4-3 schemes, Mario could slide right in at DE and not miss a beat.

But we probably won't get him. AJ will play up Antwan Barnes and then sign some practice squadder from another team's roster

Man people are really down on management right now and AJ deserves it. Again we'll see how serious we are about making a run because draft picks alone will not fix this defense. I love TOG and Barnes but imagine how much better a guy like Mario makes everybody else. We need impact players on defense.

I'd also like AJ to look at Carlos Rogers even though Cruz torched him last week (Cruz did that to a lot of people this year). Dude had a very solid year.

I think we should fix the pass rush first and foremost. We can get away with our CB's with good pressure.

Highly doubtful unless he's looking for Clary type cash. You can almost buy a 2100 square foot house with that!
