Haven't I read this same article like 30 times already this offseason? This just in.......Chargers beat writers write about the same thing over and over because at this point in time there is absolutely nothing to be excited about this team.....SORRY state of affairs. I hope it's the calm before the storm but don't hold your breath
History shows we dont go shopping at the mall, we hit the thrift stores. Last time this organization (not just AJ) brought in a free agent with a "serious" buzz we grabbed Mr. Douglas Flutie whose greatest achievement for the organization was effectively getting Mike Riley fired. This is just my opinion. In other words, I'm not holding my breath
I don't remember, I know both were not productive for the franchise, but were Boston and Wiley expensive FA signings? Just a question, totally not disagreeing. The point of the franchise not spending on top tier FA's over the course of history is certainly a valid one though.
Just preparing for more disappointment because history shows that is all they do. I keep waiting, every year, hoping that they have learned, only to see more dumb signings and suspect draft picks. Maybe with jobs on the line, things will change but I have SERIOUS concerns that there will be ANY change. Another Winter of "wait and see"...
well, I think it is valid but only SINCE Boston and Wiley because... AJ either learned to fear looking bad early (as Butler should have with Alexander--ANOTHER ONE! lol--but didn't because Chargers fans were used to sucking) OR free agents know what he is like and avoid SD id they are good enough to. The Chargers have not been cheap since Old Man Slumlord handed the keys to his soft, manicured son. Beathard was a good GM who sold out to the mad money Deano gave him to come back after pops fucked the chargers for years by not bonusing before the new cap rules hit. It's no coincidence that the team sucked after that dumb old man decided to not bonus players before the rules hit. All of it would have been off the books and every other team jumped on it! Beathard sold his soul and is remembered poorly for it. One great thing about it though was Beathard wouldn't come back unless pops gave up control of the team----and he did! Just beathard of course couldn't do anything with that kind of hand anyways, back to the players in question... he was one year removed from the pro bowl and was a HUGE signing (actually did alright with a shit team before Marty canned him for being a "me" guy. He really was too! I used to watch their practices in Carson and would watch Marty ask him nicely to run with the other guys....but he wouldn't!) That was a big contract back then but no one questioned it. I remember Wiley was hyped and paid well too
