So my dog has major teeth issues...2 cracked molars and maybe a dead front fang. She's only 7.

I give her Nylabones and raw marrow beef bones. The dental vet said Nylabones are too hard for teeth. It's common in Labs I guess cuz they are chewers and have a high pain tolerance.

Wanted to share to save some an expensive vet bill. Lookin down the barrel of $1200.

That sucks. I give you props for taking care of your dog. I know a lot of owners who would have just let their dog suffer rather than pay the bill.

    Pulling the teeth?

Yep...Ended up being $825. It would have been more if they were repairable. She had both upper back molars pulled earlier today. The fractures where too far deep to save them. One in particular was really bad and that way for a while, I just never noticed it because it wasn't visible from the side view. Her breath started stinking and I took a better look in there and found it. I feel bad because I gave her the wrong things to chew on, but feel better knowing it won't bother her anymore.

Would you believe the vet said that wood is best for their teeth? I don't know how that can be good for their insides though. I didn't press him on it because she won't chew it anyway.

    LightsoutSD BRING YOUR LUNCH PAIL!!

This is exactly why I've stopped getting pets. For years we had dogs and cats at different times, but after having to put a cat down because I couldn't afford the 1,500$ treatment. We decided not to get another one. Or another dog either, despite how much we love animals, and how much our kids beg us to get them one. We have fish now lol.

Fortunately, my ex is splitting the cost. We spent a ridiculous amount on our cat about 3 years ago. If that were to have happened today I don't know if I could justify the cost to save him. Over the course of a year and a half, he had formed a large, solid mass of xmas ribbon, shoe lace, hair and stuff that wasn't passing through his intestine. They removed a portion of his intestine. He was only 2 at the time so we thought spread out over the course of his life, if you break it down into yearly installments, it was worth saving the little guy.

That would be so difficult as a vet also, putting animals down that are saveable over and over. I'd want to save all of them.
