AJ's last hurrah and he won't be around to see any of these picks past this year.

Here's a few 5th round picks from recent drafts:

    2011:WR Denarious Moore-OAK, RB Jaquizz Rodgers-ATL, QB TJ Yates-HOU

    2010:S Cam Chancellor-SEA(probowl), CB Perrish Cox-DEN, DT Cam Thomas-SD, QB John Skelton-ARI

    2009:WR Johnny Knox-CHI(probowl), RB Javon Ringer-Tenn, K David Buehler-DAL

    2008:CB Brandon Carr-KC, RB Ryan Torain-DEN, RB Tim Hightower-ARI, G Carl Nicks(pro bowl)-NO

    2007:TE Kevin Boss-NYG, TE Donte Rosario-CAR, CB Cory Grahm(pro bowl)-CHI CB William Gay-PIT, WR
    Legedu Naanee-SD

    2006: DT Kyle Williams(pro bowl)-BUF, DE Mark Anderson-CHI, LB Tim Dobbins-SD

2005: DE Trent Cole-PHI(probowl), LB Michael Boley-ATL, DB Gerald Sensabaugh-Jax

    2004: DE Dave Ball-SD, DB Gibril Wilson-NYG, DE Antonio Smith-ARI(probowl), K Josh Scobee-Jax, RB Michael Turner-NI, FB Mike Karney-NO

This was just a quick look at fifth rounders since 2004. These were names that stuck out to me who get significant playing time, and some who are actually pro bowlers. But I'm positive that there are many more players that start or play important roles that I don't know much about.

Notice that the more recent the draft the less big names because later round selections take time to develop. I'm sure in a couple years you can throw more names into this list.

Who ever says that fifth rounders (or any really) can be thrown away because they are hit and miss are just being ignorant.

    Good post

It's wild that this is even an argument....This is one for the logic thread. I've seen it play out on different sites before; AJ gives picks away he didn't have to or picks injured or invalid dudes on hospital beds and people say, "nothing is guaranteed"! "10 percent of 5th round draft picks don't work out"! "Would you feel better if he hypothetically was injured in training camp"? I'm hoping it's like you say in that they are just being ignorant... It helps with the positive thing. If not, I want to invite every one of the people who say this to a game of poker

I'm thinking that AJ is lying about knowing and covering his ass by pretending he still would have taken this guy. either way...wow! doesn't matter how insignificant fans want to play it as...this was very bad

Totally agree, there is no such thing as a throwaway draft pick. You are talking around 6-9 players that are drafted in any given year, that is not very many chances to improve your football team. And there are thousands of kids just dying for a chance to play at the next level. Is it too much to ask that the player you draft is actually healthy enough to suit up sometime during the year he gets drafted?? Now, if this guy is hands down one of the best at his position and THEN gets hurt, sure, take a late round (7th round) flyer on him and see if it pans out. But to take a dude who is average at best BEFORE the injuries and use a 5th round pick on him?? This makes no sense, and I think it's possible AJ and the scouts seriously didn't know he was injured. This is a joke if this is the case. Puts a black eye on an otherwise pretty sound draft.

I too find it funny that people make excuses for AJ. Not for his sake, but just so they can feel that we had a good draft. "If I can't see it then it's not there!" At least that's why I think they do it. Why else would they?? I mean why would any BOLT FANS with half a brain say that the round in which Michael Turner was taken was not an important round? What if he had drafted some guy with a peg leg that year? Just turning a blind eye so they don't have to deal with any negativity I guess.

I wish there was a way to just hit "agree" with all of page four of this thread......LOL!

We need every shot at a good player who can contribute immediately that we can possibly get.

Throwing away a pick on a dude that we know won't contribute now (if that's actually true) or that may never contribute based on his injury status in total.......is just "short bus" thinking........and any Charger fan watching playoffs happen without us the last couple seasons that thinks we had a pick to waste should put on their helmet and try not to fall UP the steps while getting on said "short bus"!!!
